Materials and Fibers
Decalon®
Exclusive fiber made from 2750 denier polypropylene fiber. Enables production of products with excellent wear resistance, exceptional moisture retention, and crisp pattern appearance in coordinating colors.
Denier
Indicates the thickness of the yarn strand. Combined with face weight (grams of yarn per m²) and density of fiber strands, it is a critical factor for performance, quality, and durability of entrance mats.
Nitrile rubber
Rubber compound specifically engineered for use in the harshest environments due to increased resistance to many chemicals, oils, greases, and animal fats. Nitrile rubber also provides increased gas permeability, thermal stability, and abrasion resistance.
Manufacturing Processes
Needlepunch
Manufacturing process for carpet matting, engineered with a unique blend of 4 denier thicknesses of polypropylene yarn ranging from very fine to very thick. Needle punched products offer good crush resistance.
Tufted products
Are sewn into a backing. Manufacturing uses only the finest yarns offering high quality in terms of water absorption and appearance. Tufted products offer a broad choice of colors and patterns.
UniFusion™
Revolutionary bonding process that uses heat and pressure to fuse a floor matting top surface to a base material. The end result is a finished product that is virtually a single piece, thereby eliminating the possibility of delamination.
Chemical Materials and Compounds
Vinyl (PVC)
Stands for polyvinyl chloride, also known as PVC. Made from a plastic compound, vulcanized into a flexible, durable, and moisture-resistant material. Ideal for use as backing under carpet matting, particularly for longer lengths. These compounds are free of toxic DOP. PVC is recyclable.
DOP
Stands for Dioctyl Phthalate, an additive used to cheapen vinyl compounds. It is slowly released into the air, leached into soil, water, or liquids/foods. Direct exposure can cause serious health problems. All products are free of this substance.
SBR
Stands for Styrene Butadiene Rubber, a synthetic rubber that can be compounded to provide very fine abrasion, wear, and tensile qualities. Manufacturing uses SBR as the backing of its heavy-duty high-performance mat products, molded with grip patterns.
Testing and Properties
Key Product Properties
Water retention
Indicates the moisture retention of an entrance mat in actual usage. The higher the pointer in the test chart, the more liters of water per square meter that can be contained within the mat.
Crush resistance
Indicates the time it takes for a mat to lose its attractive appearance and functionality. This test simulates the wear an entrance mat will receive under normal foot traffic. The higher the pointer in the test chart, the greater its resistance to wear and crushing.
Dust control
Indicates the amount of debris an entrance mat can capture, hold, and hide in actual usage. The effectiveness of this function is owed to a combination of manufacturing techniques and the quality of yarns used.
Advanced Technologies
Anti-fatigue properties
The cushioning qualities found in our matting alleviate foot and lower back pressure, while stimulating blood circulation that helps to reduce stress on the lower back, leg joints, and major muscle groups.
Chemical resistance
The degree to which industrial matting products can withstand the erosive qualities of chemicals, oils, and greases found in applicable environments.
Dyna-Shield™
A revolutionary process perfected by Superior Manufacturing Group that creates a tough protective barrier on the surface of select foam anti-fatigue matting products. Dyna-Shield® mats have greater tensile strength and are more resistant to wear than traditional sponge matting.
GSII®
A technology that is incorporated into select industrial floor matting products allowing them to excel in the harshest industrial environments where aggressive chemicals, oils, and greases are commonly found, and often times where traditional matting fails.
MicroStop
Anti-microbial rubber compound made from a specially formulated blend of raw materials that inhibits the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi that can cause odor, stains, and product deterioration. All MicroStop products pass ASTM G-21, the test used by NSF/ANSI for standard 52.
